the leaf (a poem)

winter's wanting

silence calling

dies the leaf

by frost's ice hands

brave sun-star face

now, so mangled-wetness

lies half-buried

in muddy tomb

flatly troddened

nearly stemless

sad, looks blankly-lastly upward...

worm food now

farewell, summer friend

do return, again!

I like this exploration into the cycle of life from the perspective of a tree and it's leaves.
