Don’t expect spending on the pentagon to decrease. Not with our nation’s security at stake. And not with China posing an ever-greater threat.

An article by Yan Xuetong, translated from mandarin, tells “How China can defeat America.” The gist of Mr. Xuetong’s thought is that rising hegemons are a lot nicer than declining ones. Besides that, history is on the side of the rising power

Threat to what exactly?

The US has to have threats, that's why we build the world's best arms (most of the time). It does matter if they are real or not (Iraq'a WMDs come to mind). We have to be pursuing someone, with Drones (at 3 million a copy) or Spy vs Spy. Since 9-11 we have the "License to Kill" so we do that well, now. Any complaints?

China has been preoccupied with her own internal issues…

That will change soon as China's growing economy reaches out with her 'something borrowed, somthing blue' military hardware to protect their interests in foreign investments. And it may not even be the U.S., but some ragtag third world nation that slings a silkworm or excocet into the side of one of their defensive flagships. Welcome to the real world of national security.

Yep, I suspect, or they could just have their "Techy" kids harass the Pentagon and Google with harmless malware.

Perhaps it would help if we stopped selling them our latest software or hardware or whatever, and stopped outsourcing confidential information to be completed by them -- like our income taxes -- did you know your accountant can outsource the preparation of your income taxes. And it might help if we didn't let China and India take over the wind farm and solar energy industries in this country, which we have done and are doing. They would never let us do it to them. And we need to stop letting the generals tell us what to do with our money and what countries they want to invade next. They love war, it's what they do for a living, and we're letting them drive us. Time to stop and spend the money on clean energy -- our only economic salvation at this point unless a miracle brings manufacturing home. Fracking is not the answer (11 earthquakes in Ohio since March ( and indications of water contamination), where they are fracking the hell out of the state, huge emissions from sand tar, takes more energy and water to make ethanol than to buy oil from another country. Intelligence seems to be our forgotten commodity.

No doubt there are other Chinese who are more hardnosed about it. Rarely does one empire give way to a successor peacefully. There are bound to be Chinese thinkers, whose works aren’t translated, who are speculating about how the Chinese can defeat the US in a real war. They’re surely devising a strategy…and developing new technologies…right at this very moment.

How could China defeat the US? Easy, it could spook US lawmakers into spending more money…wasting more military resources…and driving the nation into bankruptcy. In short, it could just wait.

Exactly.

The Chinese are very patient and move in and take over very, very slowly and appear as benign as possible to those they are taking over. I've actually spent time working with newly arrived Chinese in the USA. They are arriving in the USA in increasing numbers and IF the USA cannot deal with it's current major immigration crisis...the US Latin America borders may well be the LEAST of US concerns. Leave the door open like it is and the Chinese will be a US majority and just plain take over the USA from inside using our own in-place political apparatus.

And, did the USSR not spend itself into bankruptcy not too long ago when it kept competing during the spiraling arms race of that era? Well, the Chinese can probably work that same strategy on the USA....and if it does come to a fight they will have stolen all the technology from the USA anyway and even if they can build it they can figure out how to neutralize it and then bring their massive formations of human soldiers online to defeat any who oppose it using the old fashioned superior numbers strategy.

Really, ask the Germans how well the "quality dominates quantity" worked for it during WWII. Then nazis (intentionally in lower case....) really outclassed the Allies in terms of weapons designs and actual field performance during that era...but were pulled down by plain old superior industrial output in terms of numbers of weapons, NOT quality, on the Allied side.

If anyone feels the USA has this situation in hand...can you explain why we keep having Chinese scientists suspected of leaking nuclear weapons designs from our national nuclear weapons labs? I mean, really, is hiring a foreign national to do a critical nuclear weapons job really smart? Or is what the Chinese special agent doing to the politicians/INS agents small head more important than US national security?

It's a small world and the Chinese are very, very patient and also smart strategists. We are well NOT to underestimate them...but also well not to be swatting at propaganda put out by the masters of that genre either. China is a true world class competitor and must be respected if not feared by those that are outside China.
