The Right-Wing is trying to blame Obama for high Gasoline Prices. I really didn't know that Obama was a derivative oil trader. Well, he is not. He is the President, but his assets are in a blind trust, so it is unlikely that he has any way to benefit from any movement in oil prices, up or down. So that pretty well rules out any personal gain. He has no position in the market makers, so he has no influence to manipulate prices. There is one thing he could do, is authorize the release of the strategic oil reserve, but that is only a couple weeks worth of oil. So, from the technical side, there is really nothing the President can do. Even more pipelines mean nothing because their is no free market distribution system in the US. Venezuela may be socialist, but they do have free markets, and gasoline within the country is sold at national prices and export is sold at international prices. So the Venezuelans pay about 20 cents a gallon for gasoline that may be even refined in the US. They have free markets, we do not.
Trading houses like the one owned by the Koch Bros. use derivatives to move the price of crude up or down. So, the market is manipulated by traders. As the market is de-regulated, they are not accountable to anyone to disclose the nature of the manipulation practices, and will not disclose them. It is all very secretive and clandestine in nature. Now, for all intents and purposes, it is racketeering and should be investigated and prosecuted by the RICO statues. But the Koch Bros., are "too big" to prosecute, you know what I mean. If you are defending this practice, you are part of the problem. Now, if you really want to know why the Oil Market is manipulated and who is doing it, and want to change the practice, then read the article, otherwise, give your money to profiteers and shut up.
