This coming week, the Boy Scouts of America have announced that they will issue a statement concerning their policy against gay membership.
The BSA has an opportunity to take politics out of their organization structure. They, thus far, have indicated that they are not willing to commit to an anti-discrimination policy, but rather wash their hands of innocent blood, and pass off the responsibility to individual units. While, this may be the politically expedient move, if they chose to address it in this manner, nothing will have be achieved for the advancement of human rights.
If they chose, not to be on the right side of history, then they have made a political statement of intolerance. If this is their final word, then they would be better to stand fully behind open discrimination, and formally exclude gay persons -- thus be willing to man-up and take the consequences.
